Nanex ~ 07-Dec-2012 ~ Gaming Michigan Consumer Sentiment

On December 7, 2012, the market reacted 820 milliseconds before the earliest release time of the Michigan Consumer Sentiment number (9:54:58 to premium subscribers). At the official release time of 9:54:58, there was another significant market reaction, leading us to suspect that the earlier reaction was not due to a poorly synchronized clock, but rather because someone received and acted on the number earlier.

The first drop at 09:54:57.180 comprised about 80,000 shares in 300 trades, while the second drop at 09:54:58 comprised about 56,000 shares in 180 trades.


2. December 2012 ES (eMini) trades and quote spread.
It appears that market reaction began in the eMini - the Michigan Consumer Confidence number usually impacts stocks (traded in NYC) before the eMini (traded in Chicago).
